Kanata – Flooring, Kitchen & Stairway Renovation

Durability, geometric straight lines, and contrast are the clear themes of this renovation.

Our inspection of the original ground floor revealed immediately apparent structural deficiencies resulting in cracked tiles crossing the hall and eat-in area. Durability and modernity were our client’s primary goals.

Strengthening the floor sheathing and installing a tile uncoupling membrane ensured a crack-free new floor. Installation of hardwood-imitation tile throughout the entrance, hall, and kitchen made for an extremely durable solution. During installation, we had to correct the significant bow of each tile with the use of the Raimondi clip system. Thousands of clips later, we had a perfect floor ready for this very active family.

A consistent, geometric theme was kept throughout, interrupted only by the beautiful, re-finished winding staircase. The new, stained oak handrail complements the floor while the wrought iron spindles contrast nicely with the white risers and stringers.

Key changes to the kitchen include re-locating the sink to be in the entertainment area and adding a splash of warmth with the wood grain-theme pantry. Smart use of space adds yet more pantry to the left of the fridge. Eco-friendly granite adds sharp contrast to the cabinetry and backsplash.

The custom box mantle creates a break in the fireplace surround tile and ties the family room warmth to that of the kitchen pantry and floor maintaining cohesive design.

Satin white glass doors take advantage of the many windows throughout this home. The entrance closet pot lights shine through the glass in the otherwise only room with little natural light. Energy-efficient, modern LED ceiling lights and pot lights are this home’s final touch to a stunning, modern revival.
